ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH DRESSOGRAPHS 1932-1936 These were half page paper dolls in the rotogravure section of this newspaper with very few exceptions, with dolls both photo poses (some very awkward or too realistically plump for the usual glamorized paper dolls) but a blow-your-mind thrill to me when I first met 3 via a man who bought volumes of the newspapers just for the comics. When I got these first few, I wrote the newspaper and had the joy and honor of being referred to the actual artist George Conrey. I could tell him how VERY much his work was a delight and by then he was retired, elderly, and so very grateful to still be appreciated. There never were enough of these to meet the desires of eager collectors but now with superior reprinting machines available they can be shared on quality paper rather than the extra brittle news- print rotogravure paper and mostly to very close matching of colors. The MOVIE DRESS- OGRAPH series featured costumes from usually 3 of the star's movie roles. But each sum- mer St. Louis featured the Municipal Opera productions given out under the stars with the audience sitting on the hillside. Then George featured the OPERA DRESSOGRAPHS with stars of the season and costumes from various light and a few grand opera roles in which the costumes were worn, usually much more elaborate than movie roles. Indulge yourself and enjoy a part of history and fascination. All originally were half a newspaper page; they here are reprinted in full size on 11x17" high quality paper for $9 each. (Originals now are $40-60 if you happen to somehow find any. What a treasure! ) M=MOVIE O=OPERA S=Some stain from old tape mend L=Light copy Brian Aherne-M Elizabeth Allan-M Heather Angel-M Richard Arlen-M George Arliss-M Fred Astaire-M Nils Asther-M Mary Astor-M Lew Ayres-M Baby Leroy-MS Tallulah Bankhead-M John Barclay-O Wendie Barrie-M (Wendy) John Barrymore-M Lionel Barrymore-M Freddie Bartholomew-M Gladys Baxter-OL Warner Baxter-M Wallace Beery-M Constance Bennett-M Joan Bennett-M Joan Blondell-M George Brent-M Virginia Bruce-M James Cagney-M Eddie Cantor-MS Kitty Carlisle-M Nancy Carroll-ML Victor Casmore-OL Leonard Ceeley-OL Marion Claire-OL Ruth Chatterton-M Maurice Chevalier-M Audrey Christie-OL Claudette Colbert-M Ronald Colman-M Gary Cooper-M Jackie Cooper-M Buster Crabbe-M Elizabeth Crandall-O Joan Crawford-M Bing Crosby-M Constance Cummings-M Zamah Cunningham-OL Bebe Daniels-M Bette Davis-M Frances Dee-M Olivia De Havilland-M Dolores Del Rio-M Sheila Dille-O Claire Dodd-M Robert Donat-ML Frances Drake-M Marie Dressler-ML James Dunn-M Irene Dunne-M Jimmy Durante-ML Ann Dvorak-M Patricia Ellis-M Hope Emerson-O Doug Fairbanks Jr.-ML Charles Farrell-ML Glenda Farrell-M Alice Faye-MS W.
